Chair and Professor of Statistics and Biostatistics Eric A. Suess and Bruce E. Trumbo, professor emeritus of statistics and mathematics, had a new book published, Introduction to Probability Simulation and Gibbs Sampling with R (Springer).

The authors write in the preface, “Our primary motivation in writing this book is to provide a basic introduction to Gibbs sampling. However, the early chapters are written so that the book can also serve as an introduction to simulating probability models or to computational aspects of Markov chains.” They dedicated the book to their students.

Suess is experienced in applications of Bayesian methods and Gibbs sampling to epidemiology. Trumbo is a fellow of the American Statistical Association and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and he is a recipient of the ASA Founders Award and the IMS Carver Medallion.
